An immersive experience for preparation for life in ministry.
CoLab
The Lifegate Leadership CoLab is a 10-month residency program designed to empower and train you for life in church ministry. A blend of academic work and deep immersion in ministry, CoLab will have you working weekly under the mentorship of pastors in both classroom and church settings.
5 main areas of residency:
- Pastoral - For those interested in growing in pastoral and leadership skills as it pertains to caring for a church or campus.
- Your ministry partners - Campus and Associate Campus pastors
- Youth Ministry - For those interested specifically in pastoring and leading groups and ministries for 6th - 12th grade students.

CoLab is built on multiple classes throughout the school year:
- Weekly classes are designed to develop the essential skills needed for leadership in ministry, including leadership skills, emotional and mental health and awareness, spiritual maturity, and biblical literacy.
- Classes are taught by multiple Lifegate Pastors and Staff Members, with frequent homework assignments.
Time Commitment:
- CoLab requires that residents commit to 20 hours a week between class work and ministry assignments. While every resident's schedule is a little different (due to different areas of residency), most of these hours will be spent on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
The Global Journey:
- As a part of your immersion into ministry, residents help lead a global journey to El Salvador in late January - early February (aligning with the start of school in El Salvador). This journey is a tremendous learning experience, and an integral and required part of CoLab.
“The connected generation wants the church to be a laboratory of leadership, not just a place for spirituality.” – Dave Kinnaman, President of Barna

Maybe. CoLab is somewhat flexible, but still has regular, fixed requirements that a full time job may not be compatible with. Some have maintained full time school and full time jobs that were flexible. Others have completely walked away from their jobs and businesses.
You need at least 1 year of volunteer experience under the leadership of a pastor or minister, or a strong recommendation from a pastor or minister.
You need a diploma, GED, or high school equivalent as a minimum.
There is no age limit for CoLab, and we require that you have completed high school.
You need a reliable source of transportation, and an ability to regularly attend all classes, meetings, and ministry assignments (with some margin for absences), as though you were on staff.
The Global Journey is an integral, and required part of the program. If you cannot go, this may not be the year for you to do CoLab.
Unfortunately, no. CoLab is limited in the space and opportunities we have to offer.
After submitting an application, you will be contacted for an initial phone interview. Our goal is to conduct all interviews by early June.
Yes. Some people know exactly what they want to do in ministry, and that they are called to ministry. Most others just want to follow Jesus, and sense a "calling," that they might describe as a next step of obedience. They don't know what comes after, or where it will lead, just that Jesus is inviting them in a new direction. If that is you, then you are in good company.
